With Spring Festival approaching, Yangliuqing ancient town in Xiqing district, Tianjin, has launched a series of festive activities.
The Spring Festival Customs Week, which concluded on Jan 18, offered immersive experiences blending traditional celebrations into modern life.
Visitors were able to view folk artworks like New Year paintings and paper-cuttings as well as participate in traditional practices such as putting up door gods and festive red decorations, experiencing the depth of Chinese cultural traditions.
Events continued through the final day. A role-playing character, Master Shi, hosted interactive workshops explaining the customs behind displaying calligraphic blessings and Spring Festival couplets, including their proper placement. A calligrapher was also on site to write personalized couplets for visitors.
Strolling through the old streets, visitors enjoyed various live performances. These acts portrayed traditional customs, historical merchant stories, and the symbolic meanings found in the local New Year paintings.
The celebrations will continue with upcoming themed weeks, including a market week, a performance week, and a lantern festival week, offering an endless stream of traditional cultural experiences throughout the festive season.
