The pineapple-radish grown in Xiqing district, Tianjin, has been added to the first group of the distinctive agricultural products list for 2025 released by the Center of Agro-product-safety and Quality at the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs.
This national-level certification signifies recognition for the construction of distinctive agricultural brands in Xiqing district, injecting new vitality into rural revitalization efforts.
As Tianjin is the hometown of the shawo radish, green radishes have a deep-seated culinary tradition among its consumers. This new variety, the red-skinned and purple-hearted pineapple-radish, has broken traditional perceptions.
According to testing, the pineapple-radish was found to have an anthocyanin content ranging from 1,619mg/kg to 1,683mg/kg and soluble sugar content between 4.32 percent and 4.44 percent. Its nutritional value indicators are significantly superior to similar products.
In 2017, the 70-mu experimental field achieved success in its first year of planting the radish. The product was introduced into the high-end fruit market and demand exceeded supply.
This radish was awarded the title of "distinctive agricultural products" as it can meet three core standards of "specific production environment, unique quality characteristics, and stable supply capacity."
In the future, Xiqing district will promote the cultivation of more distinctive agricultural products to cater the needs of high-quality agricultural market.
