Over the past ten years, with the aim of contributing to building a modernized Tianjin, Xiqing district has focused on high quality developments in the region.
High-end industries have been leading regional high quality development. Based on the development principal of “gathering new emerging and high-end industries”, Xiqing has strengthened industries including integrated circuits, the internet of vehicles, biomedicine, automobiles, and high-end equipment manufacturing, while accelerating major projects and encouraging enterprises to settle in the area, so as to realize the simultaneous improvement of the economy and efficiency.
In recent years, Xiqing district has introduced more than 12,000 projects, with a total planned investment of more than 330 billion yuan (about $45.5 billion). In the opening year of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Xiqing launched the "1010" project and 100 key projects covering 10 fields. This year, another 145 key projects were launched, with a total planned investment of 291.9 billion yuan.

Additionally, Xiqing has been also working on projects for public interest. Each year, the government launches about 20 projects for public interest so as to solve problems for the local people and improve their living standards. During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), Xiqing district invested 40 billion yuan in people's livelihood, and its proportion of annual expenditure has stayed above 80%. The government has made every effort to promote the implementation of the people's support projects.
Xiqing has continued to promote its three-year action plan for the improvement of elderly care services, and the coverage of elderly care service facilities in the whole district has reached more than 90%.

Furthermore, Xiqing district has successfully controlled the air pollution in the area. In 2021, the average annual concentration of PM2.5 in the whole region was 41 μg/m3 - a decrease of 40.6% when compared to 2015.
A green ecological barrier has been built to a high standard. The green space in the first level control area to reach 29,000 mu. In the past five years, 85,000 mu of land has been planted with 5.55 million trees, with a greening rate of 33%.
