A medium-maturing cauliflower seed variety, D60, developed by Tianjin Hui'erjia Seed Technology in Xiqing district, Tianjin, has gained a strong foothold in overseas markets.
Known for its low cost, high yield, and strong adaptability, this seed is now planted in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, supporting agricultural cooperation.
The D60 variety was specifically bred for South Asia's hot and humid climate. It offers heat tolerance, disease resistance, compact curds, and stable quality.
After screening over 300 breeding materials, the company selected 20 top combinations for field trials in Pakistan, followed by six years of purification and rejuvenation to finalize the variety.
D60 requires less seeding, has higher germination rates, and produces larger curds than local traditional cultivars, boosting farmers' incomes while cutting costs. Annual exports to Pakistan have reached 500 kilograms, and the variety is now expanding into neighboring countries.
To reduce reliance on foreign seed companies specializing in broccoli and heat-tolerant cauliflower, Hui'erjia has partnered with the Tianjin Academy of Agricultural Sciences to build an industry-academia-research system.
This covers germplasm exploration, variety improvement, market promotion, and after-sales technical support. The company offers free full-cycle planting guidance to overseas growers, ensuring rapid response to field issues.
The multilateral agricultural cooperation platform of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has facilitated international exposure and matchmaking. Xiqing district has also provided policy support, infrastructure, and exchange platforms, bringing together over 20 seed enterprises.
Looking ahead, Xiqing will leverage agricultural technology to revitalize the seed industry, enabling more premium seeds to take root in farmlands around the world.
